Maine has become a craft beer powerhouse in the last decade; growing from 34 to over 100 since 2011. In fact, Maine is third in the nation in breweries per 100,000 adults over 21 (9.6 breweries per of-drinking-age adult), and 18th in overall craft breweries (99). Thrillest just named the state the 9th best in the country for local beer. So, with all that buzz, where are the craft breweries near Acadia National Park?

While the hefty majority of Maine’s craft breweries are located in the southern 1/3 of the state (within an hour of Portland), the rest of the state is making a name of its own. Airline Brewing Company – Ellsworth, Maine

While the actual brewery is located in Amherst, along the famous “Airline Road”, an 83-mile adventure in rural driving from Brewer straight east to Calais. Airline Brewing Company has a stylish pub on Main St. in Ellsworth. They serve up traditional beers, cask ales, and pub grub.

Atlantic Brewing Company – Bar Harbor, Maine

Founded in 1990 as Acadia Brewing, Atlantic Brewing Company is a popular craft brewery near Acadia National Park on Mount Desert Island. Atlantic Brewing has two locations on MDI, the main brewery on Knox Rd toward the entrance to MDI and the new beautiful Midtown location. In 2008, Atlantic Brewing acquired the only other brewing company on MDI, Bar Harbor Brewing Company. It still brews and sells many of the popular original Acadia National Park-themed recipes including Thunder Hole Ale and Cadillac Mountain Stout. The Town Hill Location is also home to Mainely Meats, where outdoor seating, delicious bbq, and of course, Atlantic Brewing beer is available on tap. The brewery offers free tastings of their beer inside the gift shop, where you’ll also find apparel, gifts, and beer to take with you. Deep Water Brewing Company – Blue Hill, Maine

A new addition to our list, updated for 2020, Deep Water Brewing Company in Blue Hill is an intimate three-barrel micro-brewery located at the Arborvine Restaurant, about 35 minutes from the entrance to Acadia National Park.
