It’s Supposed to Snow Tomorrow, and We’re Ready For S’mores

February 7, 2018by Thomas Tash

Wow. It’s been 6 months since we officially announced that we’d be opening our first Pocket Parks location, Acadia East Campground, outside of Acadia National Park. While the time has flown by in the blink of an eye, we’re all feeling a bit antsy for summer to arrive. More specifically: June 1st.

Sure, we have plenty of work to do between now and then (I literally count picnic tables in my sleep), but with all of the buzz we’ve been hearing from the local communities… we’d love to fast forward to the part where we’re all enjoying s’mores together.

Jason, Zach, and I were on site mapping out trails and sites last weekend. It was incredible to see bare ground when only two hours earlier we had left nearly a foot of snow in central Maine.

The lay of the land is perfect for capturing the backcountry feel we’ve been hoping for. Roughly 20 minutes from the LL Bean outlet in Ellsworth, Acadia East Campground lies on the north side of US Rt. 1, between Rt. 186 and 195 towards Acadia National Park at Schoodic.

The campground begins with 250 feet of frontage along a quiet stretch of Route 1. Guests will pull in to a gravel driveway that leads to the main parking area. From here, guests find the main information boards, toilets, and trailheads to the campsites.

Our favorite thing about the property is the rugged exposed rock and evergreen clearings that create many different Maine wilderness environments in a close area. A small brook runs through the property, it’s currently frozen in a stationary waterfall that I wish would stay all year.

Towards the back side of the camping area are multiple evergreen clearings that provide private areas with wide view of the sky (we’re already planning night sky events with telescopes and stuff).

There’s a lot left to do before June 1st, but we’re excited to share it all with you here!

Cheers!

Tom and Zach
