The Beehive Campsite at Acadia East Campground

January 9, 2019by Thomas Tash

Located at the front of the Acadia East Campground property, The Beehive campsite is a conveniently placed camping spot for folks that need a quick and easy place to pitch their tent without having to walk far. If you’re looking for a tent camping base to call home while you visit Acadia National Park’s Schoodic District, then The Beehive Campsite might be just right for you.

Disclaimer: The Beehive Campsite is named after the iconic dome-shaped peak in Acadia National Park. This campsite is NOT located on or near The Beehive peak or trail. There is NO campsite located on or near The Beehive in Acadia National Park.

The Beehive Campsite at Acadia East Campground

The Beehive campsite sits roughly 50 feet from the main parking area. It is the only campsite that is accessible from both sides by trails from the parking area. Approaching the campsite on the main campground trail, The Beehive is located on the right before you reach the wooden bridge that leads you on to the Wonderland Campsite and the restroom facility. The site is clearly marked with a cedar sign.

One of the smaller sites at Acadia East Campground, The Beehive campsite is perfect for 1-4 people staying in a single tent.

Many of the guests that choose to stay at The Beehive at Acadia East Campground enjoy the proximity to the parking area and main road for the following reasons:

  • Easily accessing their vehicle frequently if they have children;
  • Short and easy walk for young or beginner campers;
  • Campers that plan to arrive or leave the campground after dark (sunrise and sunset hikers);
  • Bicyclists and kayakers needing to bring extra gear to their campsite;
  • Those looking for or requiring a less-demanding hike to their campsite.

The Beehive campsite sits within a short walk (about 50 feet) to the restroom for quick and easy access.

The site features a 4-foot long picnic table as well as rock campfire pit. A filled 5-gallon bucket of campfire dousing water is also provided. Campers should use as needed for putting fires out before you leave your campsite or going to sleep. The buckets of water are not for drinking from, as is clearly marked on the bucket.

We invite you to stay at Acadia East Campground as you experience your great Acadia National Park adventure. We are located between the Mount Desert Island and Schoodic sections of the park. 10 minutes from the Schoodic entrance sign and 35 minutes from the Thompson Island Information Center gateway to MDI.
